RSC LIVE: CORIOLANUS
Wednesday 11 October 2017, 7pm in the Amey Theatre.
A full-throttle war play that revels in the sweat of the battlefield, Coriolanus transports us back to the emergence of the republic of Rome.
Caius Martius Coriolanus is a fearless soldier but a reluctant leader. His ambitious mother attempts to carve him a path to political power, but he struggles to change his nature and do what is required to achieve greatness. In this new city state struggling to find its feet, where the gap between rich and poor is widening every day, Coriolanus must decide who he really is and where his allegiances lie.
Rome Season Director, Angus Jackson, completes the Royal Shakespeare Company’s collection of Shakespeare’s Roman plays with a visceral production which sees Sope Dirisu (One Night in Miami, Donmar Warehouse, 2016) take on the title role.

Blog Post 4: (Written by Ollie Smith)
Today’s focus is not going to be on a particular muscle group but instead, we are going to explore a different style of training. In resistance training, a pyramid is a basic structure that you create when arranging your sets and reps of a given exercise. It entails starting out light and then stepping up the weight you use on successive sets. As you keep adding weight, the number of reps you can do goes down, which illustrates the inverse relationship between the two variables.
So as you can imagine this sort of training can only be done with an exercise where you can increase/decrease the resistance. Therefore, this is a training style that can not be done with only your body-weight.
To help make it easier to understand I will relate this workout to a muscle group so that you can see how it would work in a real workout.
In this example I am going to use the squat as my exercise of choice. So, to start off we are going to be doing more reps with a lighter weight. Then, as we decrease the reps we will increase the weight. Here is a diagram to help you visualise this.
1st set: 40 reps with just the bar
2nd set: 30 reps with 5kg each side
3rd set: 20 reps with 7.5kg each side
4th set: 10 reps with 10kg each side
5th set : 5 reps with 12.5kg each side
6th set: 10 reps with 10kg each side
7th set: 20 reps with 7.5kg each side
8th set: 30 reps with 5kg each side
9th set: 40 reps with just the bar
This would then be a completed Pyramid as we have gone to the top and then back down again. Again, the weights can be altered depending on your ability. This can also be used for any muscle group; chest, shoulders, back and exercise which involves a variable resistance.
