In the 12th century the Benedictine monks of Abingdon Abbey founded the School – we claim St Edmund as one of our first boys – and built St Nicolas’ Church, where the School worshipped. In the 16th century the Church became part of the new Church of England. The School continues that parish church link with three annual services in St Helen’s and St Michael’s Churches.

The Charles Maude Room, or CMR for short, is located on the east end of Abingdon School and is situated directly underneath the chapel. It has recently been refurbished over the summer of 2015 and can hold up to 100 peoples seated or up to 200 for a drinks reception. The CMR has had a varied use since the school moved to this site, ranging from the school gymnasium, a sixth form common room to its current use as a Drama teaching space and a function room. The CMR is perfectly equipped for a moderate sized conference with a large projection screen mounted in the ceiling and simple but fully comprehensive sound system. Upon request, it is also possible to install theatre lighting for your event. Please note, access to the CMR is down a series of steps.
